Gamemon USB: Updated Drivers?
8 CommentsA couple of blog commenters suggested updated drivers might help some of their problems. I followed a website or two and came across this driver which is definitely for the Gamemon device:

I will allow someone smarter than I to let me know if it is indeed a newer device. Apparently the company behind this is a rather large third party Chinese manufacturer for these video game accessories.
Yep, that’s right Wal-Mart stuff from good ‘ol China. I stopped being shocked long ago, and I’ve never been apalled by it, commercialism is a bitch like that.

How recent is that driver?
I’ve found that site a while ago, and used a driver from it. Never allowed me to
get into converter settings {which is useless anyway} and still only worked with the single third party xbox controller (of the 3 which my roommate owns).Emailing them about the problems with converter settings prompted them to email me an older driver, which allowed me to get into converter settings but had the same problems with 3rd party xbox controllers. Further emails brought about no response.
I suspect it’s a driver issue

A link to the converter’s driver download page, detailing all the changes pertaining to the various incarnations of the driver.I think 1.2 is the second one I tried {which didn’t allow me to open converter settings) and 1.1 is the one that was emailed to me. Not sure which {if any} of these comes packaged with the converter.

On a whim, I uninstalled the manunfacturer driver, in an attempt to test the XCtrl driver {really hard to find now}.
Plugging in one of the controllers that hasn’t worked with the device yields similar results, but plugging in the one that has Windows detected it as an XBCD Xbox Gamepad. I’d forgotten I had that installed. Checking under Game Controllers in Control Panel listed it there as XBCD Xbox Gamepad, it looks to be have more options than the standard driver.
Check it out, if you like. http://www.redcl0ud.com/xbcd.html
I’ll see about uninstalling this driver and testing XCtrl.
Also, I saw elsewhere that some Pelican XBOX controllers don’t work with XBCD unless some info {PID and some such} was added to the XBCD driver. I’ll see if I can locate this again and test it out.
Will keep you updated.

That would make perfect sense, since the XBox plug really is nothing more than a glorified USB pad. I wonder if the drivers could be extracted using a “Driver Capture” utility and PID’s be added for some of those weirder pads.

It’s worth a try.

Was unable to locate the PID/VID for my brand of controller {Gamestop Eclipse}.
XBCD drivers are giving my trouble now with the one controller that does work on my computer.
I am in the process of attempting to mod the Gamestop controller so that it can be plugged directly into the USB port. Progress is halted right now as I don’t have a soldering iron.

I have tried a Nintendo brand Gamecube controller, a Sony brand PS2 controller, and the USB ports with a PSP and Sony brand PS3 contorller with all three drivers. I don’t have an X-Box controller to try and I’m not going to get one with all of my other options. Nothing works. I’m running Vista Media Edition and I bought this because it was supposed to be Vista compatible. I’ve been able to run the configuration with all the drivers, but the computer will not recognize the converter. The led is lit on the PS2 controller, but the converter does not exist in my USB devices and the controllers do not exist in the game controllers section of the control panel. Any help would be appreciated. I re-installed each driver three times and tried every option in the settings. Nothing. Please tell me that someone can help me.

It turns out that the converter I was using was dysfunctional. I had originally purchased two of them, but after the first one didn’t work, I didn’t want to open the second one. After reading the success everyone was having, I decided to open the other one. I plugged it in and it worked perfectly. If anyone has this problem, return it for an exact exchange. It works, there are simply some malfunctioning units in circulation.
