These thoughts are being posted on my personal blog because they represent my personal thoughts on an issue. They do not represent Game Junkie or my work on tournaments there. From that sense, the players make the event and it’s nothing without them, regardless of whether I question motive or not.

Anyways, I do need to call out the team who did win, Team ITZ. I did do a little bit of background reading to discover that they did place 8th in an MLG tournament. Yes, MLG’s … the pro’s … where their amateur division is even basically semi-pro, and yet they decided to enter this amateur tournament.

What I am questioning is their pride and dignity as supposedly good players. I get the impression they came knowing they could and would dominate, and that they would win, basically have a cash grab. That’s fine, except for the realm of which they are doing so … at an amateur event! Non-MLG rules for a reason, lower entries for a reason, and still entering.

Yes, by the letter of the rules, they were allowed to (their best efforts were 4th in a GJ event), but by the spirit of the rules, I don’t think it was their place to. It’s not the biggest thing in the world, it’ll be taken care of come next event as they will be ineligible for amateur play, but all of those things said, I think it says a great deal about the mentality of this particular team, and it shows a lacking of pride or caring for their own abilities and who they should be competing against.

In the same sense you can blame me and those of us who organize the event for even allowing such a thing to happen, and that statement can be valid, and the only good response I have is that there isn’t a perfect system to keep the competition level perfectly set for an initial event. Lessons definitely learned though for a follow-up tournament.
And, personal pet peeve here … someone was starting to ask me question after question about the rules, and I flat out asked them, “did you bother to read the rules on the web site?”, and he said he just found out about the tournament … a week and a half ago! Yep, couldn’t find 10 minutes out of 10 DAYS to read some rules for an event he was going to attend. A bit irresponsible, don’t ya think?

Enough ranting for me for now. I do like the passion of the Halo 2 players, but I wish it was better placed and shown more in a decorum of respect then it’s ever shown, would do the group of players as a whole a lot of good.

seriously kid, grow up just a little bit. This was a local amateur tournament. This was meant for kids who hardly play halo to come in and have some fun. You guys had to come to this tournament becuase you dong have enough guts to come to the pro tournament and play with people of your skill. I know this is probably Clutch, and if it is I do respect your skill, but stop taking everything out on Scooter. Everyone is different, and i can probably find 1000 things to slam you about too, but i don’t. If maybe once or twice you would think about how the other person might feel when you post this shit, then maybe you wouldnt post at all. If im not mistaken your 18 years old, and what you just said is pretty damn pathetic. Grow up a little bit, and stop acting like a 3 year old.

I opened that door, and have NO problem walking through it. :)

Commenter #1, thank you for proving my points with amazing accuracy … total lack of respect and class, not just to me but to the store too. Without that store, I wouldn’t be blessed enough to get to work tournaments and you wouldn’t have the opportunity to win what you did, regardless of what my take on the team’s appearance was. Other then that, there’s nothing else I need to add.

R05i3, I appreciate you having my back, I’ve known you long enough to know that you’re just as passionate of a competitor as there is, but like many of the guys who really have made Halo at our store go (the guys who have been in it for 2 years plus), you do have the class too. Much props.

and here’s an aside to mr. fuck u: if you don’t store credit, win a tournament that actually matters.

    plzkthxbye

Ok… Fuck U, why would u complain to scooter…You come to an ameture tournament expecting a big prize?…Thats plain stupid..Scooter ran the tournament amazingly well, only 3 teams signed up before tournament 14 ( idk how many exactly ) signed up actually there at the tournament…iTz i respect your teams skill, im not gonna even start anything here, Clutch was cool with me at the tournament he actually helped me out some…but Kids cant complain about iTz showing up they were aloud too…But i do think they should have went to pro instead of Ameture, Scooter major Props for running tournament..See you around

  9. sav2880 says:

Voodoo, thanks for the kind words, but the props really go to Stephen, Matt, Pat Jeanneret (guy in the red shirt) and Greg who got into the trenches and helped with scoring and getting matches going.

I’m very happy that the guys want to have me back to be extra help considering some of the staff was off graduating high school (props to them for that!), and it’s worth the 100 mile drive I made to hang with friends, see familiar faces, and help run something that I enjoy to do … and of course the web page work, which is always good.

Yeah, going from 3 teams to 17 (and then an 18th for the 4v4′s) was likely the largest “day of” entry we’ve ever had, so we had to adjust plans pretty quickly to accomodate more then we expected. All of us pretty much beg teams to pre-enter, but the nature of people can be to procrastinate and not necessarily plan (it’s not my strength either), so I understand it.

The prizes were definitely set up as they were for a reason too, to encourage local players and store patrons who aren’t typically tournament players to come out, have fun, compete in a game they enjoy to play, and let that be that. It certainly wasn’t meant for players who are able to be competitive at an MLG level, so my take on that certainly remains the same, and I am sure the guys who run the store every day will make the adjustments so that the top teams here will be ineligible for the next amateur event (a.k.a. they’re more apt for a GJ pro event) and/or other players who have MLG experience.

None of the “not so nice” commenter’s thoughts change one bit how I feel about the tournaments at GJ. They are fun to be a part of, and hopefully I can be part of more in the future.

  10. LegendJRG says:

Not too sure that was clutch but if it was thats kind of sad, but people do act differently behind a computer. Scoot, I love your work and glad you still come around you made my first GJ tournament really fun, and everyone since then has been a blast and always gotta love Bennedy and Stephen. Also it’s pretty hard for me to take FU’s comments seriously because they’re just flat out rediculous but for future am tournaments i’d recommend prizes only.

  11. Stephen says:

I think the funniest part is, we have fuck u’s IP address and email address. I wonder how his parents would like a phone call…

  12. R05i3 says:

  16. mikeP says:

omg…. wtf is that first message supposed to f’n mean anyway…. im very very confused by this…

and cut all the fat off u wat will be let is ur little skinny dick

^ wtf is that supposed to mean… this kid cant be too smart, and he obviously can’t spell/type too well…

  17. Pat says:

Ok, if this FU guy is clutch that I met at the tournament, what’s your deal. When I talked to you, you seemed like a nice guy. Yeah you were intense during some of the matches, but any competitor can do that. Maybe you are upset that you only got store credit. Well you came to a Halo 2 am tourney with an SMG start and only a $10 per person entry. We never promised big cash amounts like we do for our PRO tourneys. Also it is not necessary to attack a person for what he looks like. Scooter is a great guy that does a lot for the store and I’ve enjoyed the time I’ve gotten to know him and work with him. Also the fact that you can only say all of this in a blog makes you look even more ridiculous. I’m sorry that you are upset, but you being a pro level player at Halo 2 and coming to an amateur tournament shows a lot about your character.

  18. R05i3 says:

    isnt this kid smart mike.

  19. Matt Adams says:

A little late, yeah, but holy shit, fu, why even bother? You can’t seriously hope to accomplish something by behaving like that…
