… my gut sank. Carson Palmer’s down and hurt?
I knew the moment that Dave Lapham said it on the radio and just how he said it that not only was Palmer hurt, but he was hurt badly, and wouldn’t be back, and I just knew in the inflection of his voice and what he was saying that it was serious. Come to find out, it was a torn ACL. Just something at that point told me the Bengals would not win, because while Jon Kitna is good, he is only serviceable and has flaws in his game.
The other play that decided it? The botched field goal attempt in the third quarter which would have given the Bengals a six-point lead. After that, the adrenaline that the Bengals were playing with after the injury and the confidence that Kitna had just went away. I don’t think they had one good drive after that point, and if they could have converted that field goal, they may have kept up the confidence long enough to win that game.
Still, a great season, let’s just hope Carson is back for the training camp for 2006, or else it could be rough to start next year!
