San Antonio Saints? Air Force Hornets?!

So maybe it’s a bit crass of me to look at the destruction of Hurricane Katrina strictly from a sports sense. I’ll explain my thoughts on the whole thing later on, cause they are much more vast and diverse. But since sports sometimes is a smaller microchosm of real life, I thought I’d expound on some of those things.

  • Did anyone ever imagine that some of the greatest sports buildings ever produced, the Superdome and the Astrodome, would ever be used in the way they are right now? Places where 25,000 people will live for maybe months at a time? Having seen the Astrodome, that’s a scary scary thing.
  • Does the thought of an established NFL team not being able to play home games for an entire season, not because they wanted to rip up their stadium, but because something like this made it physically impossible to get to your stadium?
  • http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2149560In the grand scheme of things, whether you can hold a football game is nothing more then a diversion. I’m a hardcore sports fan, and I get that. It’ll be a welcome diversion when it returns, but good lord, then when’s of it returning is a scary scary thing.

Just as scary to think that when this is all said and done, we could be using the Superdome for other things in the temporary … like morgues.

My prayers to everyone in that city.
