So maybe it’s a bit crass of me to look at the destruction of Hurricane Katrina strictly from a sports sense. I’ll explain my thoughts on the whole thing later on, cause they are much more vast and diverse. But since sports sometimes is a smaller microchosm of real life, I thought I’d expound on some of those things.
- Did anyone ever imagine that some of the greatest sports buildings ever produced, the Superdome and the Astrodome, would ever be used in the way they are right now? Places where 25,000 people will live for maybe months at a time? Having seen the Astrodome, that’s a scary scary thing.
- Does the thought of an established NFL team not being able to play home games for an entire season, not because they wanted to rip up their stadium, but because something like this made it physically impossible to get to your stadium?
- http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2149560In the grand scheme of things, whether you can hold a football game is nothing more then a diversion. I’m a hardcore sports fan, and I get that. It’ll be a welcome diversion when it returns, but good lord, then when’s of it returning is a scary scary thing.
Just as scary to think that when this is all said and done, we could be using the Superdome for other things in the temporary … like morgues.
My prayers to everyone in that city.

Where is Alex Perez?
Filed under: Blogger, Game Junkie; No CommentsThis is an official Scooter (and Stephen and the entirety of Game Junkie) official all points bulletin.
Has anyone heard from Alex Perez?
Forgive my lack of complete knowledge, but I know he was living in Florida and then moved to Louisiana, I think the southern portion of the area as well. I haven’t heard from him in a couple of months (we’d talk on IM’s occasionally) but with the Hurricane and all of the death and destruction, I really want to make sure he is ok and doing well.
I’m going to link to this post in the forums too so that more regulars see it. But definitely if you’ve heard from him, send us a heads up.
He’s one of our original customers, and one of the better guys that’s come through this store, I’d hate to think he is in peril.
UPDATE: Thanks Adam, he apparently is in Baton Rouge, so while I doubt he’s comfortable … or has power, but at least he’s safe.
