There’s nothing better then helping to see a project to fruition, and knowing you were a large part of what made it come to be. Ikasucon is that for me, and for the second year in a row, the Game Junkie contingent of it was a huge success.
Business was up by some 21% over last year, the game room was booming as always, the tournaments went smoother this year then last (even with some headaches in Smash and Halo that quickly got squashed), I didn’t lose any of the stuff I brought, and best of all, there’s good sentiment that I’d be able to be chair of the video game room next year. It helps when the two people who are supposed to co-chair it are playing 4 hours of Naruto 3 on Sunday while you’re selling stuff and managing to begin tear down of some rooms.
I like the guys who acted as the video game room chairs as guys, they’re gamers through and through, passionate about it, and good people. Maybe it is my own mentality though, but they didn’t work very hard in making sure the game room went well, that ended up really falling on me and and GJ guys (there were more of us after all), and I think to the people that it matters to, that showed. I’m not bitter at those guys, they do have more inroads, I just hope next year, the line of command can start and end with GJ when it comes to the game room, not just so in an “assumed” manner.
Needless to say, 25 hours of work later, I was zonked that Sunday night (just ask Danielle!) and Monday, but a long night of sleeping on Monday, and I’m good for today finally.
Awesome weekend, great for the store, and very fulfilling.
