BlogShares: Trade blog stock!

On February 18, 2005, in Blogger, by sav2880

In the words of the great John Cleese … and now for something completely different!

There’s a site I just discovered, mostly in doing a search on “JunkieBlog” (although that first entry scares me, I’m going to have to post more!), that actually plays the fantasy game of buying and selling stocks in the millions of blogs on the Internet! It’s called BlogShares.

Even cooler, the JunkieBlog has a page! So, you can check out the progress of the JunkieBlog and the share price rise. I’m just starting to learn the site but it looks like a cool diversion for those people who are inclined to gamble or invest.

And of course … I bought 100 extra shares for myself, gotta support the home product!!

Check it out HERE.

UPDATE! – The link on the right sidebar noting the presence of BlogShares will take you straight to the BlogShares listing for this page. Buy some up, link to this page to make it better and better!

Halo One Tournaments Return MONDAY

On February 18, 2005, in Blogger, Game Junkie, by sav2880

We haven’t forgotten about all the hardcores who still love Halo 1, even more then they do the new one. Their day in the sun has returned again!

Spur of the moment, Guinness-style “Brilliant!” style thinking has led us to a wonderful idea … have a Halo 1 tournament on Monday when everyone is off school for President’s Day! Here’s the basic information:

Halo 1 2v2 Doubles Championship
Date: Monday 2/21/05 @ 1 PM
Entry Fee: $5 – We want big crowds so help us make that happen, and we’ll hook you up with a low entry fee! No late fee either, so if you decide late, come on up. If you don’t have a partner, we’ll help match you up.

The prizes will of course be determined by the # of entrants, but our gold standard is approximately 65% of the pool being distributed back for prizes, so lots of teams means lots of loot!

NOTE TO E-MAIL READERS: The tournament setup listed was for one of our singles events. The format for this event will be 1 on 1 matches all the time, first to 15 kills, then goes to 2 out of 3 with 15 kills in the semis, and 25 kills, best 2 out of three.

Smash Bros. Melee Singles Winners

On February 18, 2005, in Blogger, Game Junkie, by sav2880

So we didn’t do the winners for the Smash Brothers Melee singles event later in the night any justice! So, without further adieu, here’s the singles Top 3!

  • 1st Place – James Hafner
  • 2nd Place – Drew Scoles
  • 3rd Place – Joe Bushman

So, the Top 3 of this event was dominated by both Ohio and Michigan out-of-town players as has been the norm as of late. We’d love to see even more local talent come out and compete and give these guys a run for their money at the next event in May, but our winners were all great guys, and I’m also glad that they made the road trip and enjoyed their time at the store (and hey, got some great Game Junkie stuff too!)

Be on the lookout here soon for our next Melee tournament announcement (hint: it’s in May!) and also for our more events, including one on Monday!

Super Smash Bros. Melee Doubles Results

On February 12, 2005, in Blogger, Game Junkie, by sav2880

The first results are in from today’s Super Smash Bros. Melee event! Here are the doubles winners:

1st – BoxLobster (James Haffner & Joel Smart)
2nd – Team NubSawace (Drew Scoles & Joe Bushman)
3rd – Team Blood (Ameer Smith & Alex Kern)

The total prize handouts amounted to over $250 for doubles alone, and it will be matched on the singles side of the event too, so as with all of our “guaranteed money” events, we’ve been able to surpass the guaranteed prize amount!

Keep posted, the singles results will be posted later this weekend!

And now for you Orange fans …

An Apple IBook Update!

It’s still in the shop, the repair center got it Friday, so I sense it will be a bit longer then anticipated, but we’ll see. I hope they work weekends!

Calm before the busy storm

On February 11, 2005, in AST Sales, Game Junkie, LiveJournal, by sav2880

Good gracious is it slow here at my main job today. Like for the last two hours, I’ve had about 3 tasks of note, and not that much to do outside of that. There are minor ticky-tack things I could do (filing from three months ago) to look busy but it’s just not happening, so here I am, chillin’ waiting for 5 PM, or really 4:30 (cause I’ll get some cleaning done then).

Then, some last minute shopping (no, I haven’t been a total dope, my gift for Danielle is almost done, but I do need to package it), then FNL, then wake up for a Smash Tournament, then get the heck out of town ’til Monday morning.

(Stopped writing here)

Futons, futons, futons

On February 11, 2005, in LiveJournal, Personal, by sav2880

Have I ever said that disassembling a futon sucks? No really, it does!

I’ve got it broken into two pieces now … the wooden sides and the metal frame (the inside frame of course being the broken part). But, I can’t get it disassembles any farther then that, due to the darn wooden pegs on the outside sides (I know that’s repeating) sticking in! So, I’m thinking two pieces may be the best I can do and it’s gonna be a bitch to move that.

But here’s the grand idea: bring back the old bed (which is in the garage and in good shape), buy a new frame (Original Mattress has very nice bed frames for $50), to hell with the headboard and footboard if they don’t fit, and then hopefully a new frame makes my old bed better again. I lose some of the space I gained with the futon, but this solution will set me back $50 (which puts my total bedding expenditures to $85 … the futon was nearly free as you can see!)

If I come out of this only paying $50 and the bed feels better then it did with the new frame (the old frame was crappy and had flimsy bent rails, I’m sure it was offering zero support), then I think I come out ahead. Can’t see spending $600 on a new bed right now (although the $600 bed is awful nice), and can’t see buying a futon frame which doesn’t help anything and is more expensive. This is the best option.

Something about having a girlfriend that makes you think about not really your own sleeping arrangement, but hers as well. I’m jealous of hers … she has a water bed!

Happy insurance day!

On February 10, 2005, in Fun Stuff, LiveJournal, Personal, by sav2880

As of this exact moment …. well, this exact moment on Tuesday give or take an hour or two (I was born at 4:01 PM), I’m 25!

My only disappointment? No calls from my insurance agent telling me how much I’ve saved in insurance yet! I kid of course, I’m sure there’s no law anymore that says when you turn 25, you save massively on insurance, but you know, another $20 a month would be nice right now!

I promise tonight, I’m posting an update on things with Danielle. I could just be evil and tell you the truth in so many words possible (it’s still wonderful!!), but I’ll be nice and go into more detail, promise!

Bills suck, they just do!

On February 8, 2005, in LiveJournal, Personal, by sav2880

Wanna know how much they suck? Here’s the litany:

* So you’re supposed to get money back from taxes, right? Nope, not in my case … I owe $500! I think I hit bracket creep, and each job took out from my taxes what I was supposed to take out for that amount of income, which when combined, was not enough, so Uncle Sam gets to bend me over this year, and force me to like it. And oh yeah, Ohio is messing with their tax code again. Bleh!

* The famed car bill … all the maintenance I should have had done between now and 100,000 miles crammed into one single huge maintenance trip. $1,000 later (and a little help from the dad, whom I’ll need to take care of in the next couple of weeks), I’m REALLY broke!

* On top of that, the frame to my futon is starting to wear down, thus, I’m going to need to either replace it ($150) or get something nicer ($400-$500 for a nice bed)

So all in all, between 2/1 and 2/8, I’ve gained some $2,000 in bills. Not exactly my idea of a great financial month!

Still all good … cause life with Danielle is still good … and that matters more then the money ever will! :-)

Cursed little iBook!

On February 8, 2005, in LiveJournal, Mac, by sav2880

So my computer has succumb to, as I have now read, one of the few bugs that the iBook has: the logic board problem with the video. What it means is that I have to send my iBook away (through the Apple Store, and thank goodness for the Apple Store!) for a week for it to be repaired, and I’m without my laptop. The good news? It’s free, and let me tell you, I need anything that’s free right now.

So while it may be a cursed little iBook, hey, I can back it up (I am right now with SuperDuper), save my stuff, and get a working iBook back. I guess if I was really adventurous (or if I had the time, and with my Mac, the answer is neither!), I could try something like PearPC or CherryOS if it was out or an emulator, but since it’s my data that’s now only backed up once, I don’t think I want to even be that crazy!

Oh well … back to WebMail for me for a week (bleh!)
