Yes, I am crazy enough to count the seconds, I’m even crazy enough to track it in Vana’diel time, should someone be willing to send me a FFXI clock (I guess it would technically be 20 days since one hour of real time is a day in the online world)
So anyways, anyone who is reading this knows why I’m counting time. That’s about the time that I think I’ll be in Columbus to see the love of my life, Danielle. I love her so much, she’s just such a beautiful woman, on the outside, and her personality is just wonderful. She’s so genuinely nice and giving, and usually very relaxed and easy going as well. We just are that way around each other, when we’re not kissing each other like crazy of course (which by the way rocks big time!), and it’s been strong on every level: mentally, spiritually, physically. There’s true attraction, and there’s never a shortage to talk about or discuss, and we do all of those things. As much as it just kills me to have to wait 5 days to see her every week, the phone conversations are great for that.
So when I see her tomorrow, I can already tell you the first thought that’s going through my head: I just can’t wait to be there, and give her the biggest kiss that I possibly can! I miss the feeling by the time I’m back in Cincinnati. I joked with her, but it might be true: I might be there at 6:00 and so want to be in her arms by 6:05! Yeah, those kisses are rather addictive!
I love her, I love her, I love her so much!!!!!
(BTW, I’m sitting at the front of FNL right now. I might have a lot of random stuff left in me for later, so beware!)

So today’s Anchordesk story caught my eye, it’s about PDA’s. I am still a user of a Sony Clie SJ-22, and while I carry it, read on to see why this story makes sense, and why it does have me thinking.
The story basically contends that the routine PDA is falling into a “Bermuda Triangle”, where other devices simply do better what the PDA was initially intended for (Laptop computers, Smart Phones, and now Portable Media Players). It all makes sense and shows me the lackings that I have which make me normally keep my Sony in my pocket:
* Lack of memory: My Clie SJ-12 only has space for 16 MB and it doesn’t function as a music player or a photo viewer for any decent quality, so while I own a 64 MB Memory Stick, it’s only viable purpose is for data storage.
* Lack of connectivity: It only has one way to connect outside: through a USB cable connection (or Infared but I have no other Infared devices), so it’s not connected through any sort of 802.11b or Bluetooth, which would allow it to piggyback off a Internet line and add more usefulness.
* The iBook presence: The thought then that remains is that the Clie PDA is most useful when the iBook is not around as a way to access my calendar and to do list and other random memos that I may need.
So this may have solved my problem just by thinking about it. I’ll evict the Clie PDA from my pocket and place it in my laptop bag. Not that I have anything else to go in my pocket in its place, but maybe, that’s where the iPod will go!

The end of emulation as we know it?
Filed under: Emulation, LiveJournal; No CommentsWhen I saw this, I realized that something was amiss. I still think it is. Here’s the scoop. According to my friends at Retrogames (Atila is the man btw), the MAME Logo may start having a trademark symbol after it as the Ultracade company is attempting to get it that way. Their statement on the matter is here.
Now, the statement says that they want to co-exist with the open source MAME community. Uh huh, suuuuure. Ultracade is a company much like any other, and I’m sure if they could make this happen, it would mean MAME would not ever quite be the same as we know it today. Now it’s not like there is a lot they could do: the source code is out there in the hands of millions of people and you can’t just make all of them take it off their machine (anyone in the business of licensed music downloads knows this). But, could they halt development? Could it bring the project to an end at this point right now?
Many people wouldn’t care: their favorite game as a kid has already been placed into the annals of emulation, and mine have been too. But, I still hate to see the hobby as a whole come to a halt. There are side projects going on now, and some are kinda cool, but MAME is it, the 400 Lb. gorilla that makes it all go.
No more MAME updates, and I will surely miss emulation a lot as I used to know it. It may have been out of its heyday for about 3-1/2 years now, but it is still a shame if all this comes to be.
UPDATE! Now the good news to this is, one of the better programmers from the MAME Team, Aaron Giles (who has done huge amounts of work on some of the most complex drivers in MAME, and oh yeah, works for Microsoft as one of the primary programmers of Virtual PC), has posted information about it on his web site, calling it nothing short of attempted theft of intellectual property (I would happen to agree 150%!). Good to hear that this will hopefully be resolved soon … there’s not much I see Aaron NOT succeed in!

You mean the Reds might be good?!
Filed under: LiveJournal, Sports; No CommentsYes, it’s true, the Reds don’t suck this year! It’s not that they have been utterly atrocious the past two years either, they just didn’t have the horses to play 162 games and be competitive throughout the entire campaign. Now with some new pitching in Ramon Ortiz and Eric Milton, there will at least be enough innings for the starters to be successful and not kill the bullpen.
And, there’s plenty of offense to go around. As long as Wily Mo has a good year, I’d be happy to see Griffey come back and have a 30 / 100 / .300 average season, the same for Kearns with his injury issues. If we get that out of both of them, the offense will be exemplary.
My initial hope? 85-87 wins. That would not be off the charts awesome but it would be in the direction they want to go. Then add another piece next year and maybe we’re looking at division champs.
That’s my thought. Should you care, what’s yours?

PSP Launch 1 Month Out, Demo NOW at store
Filed under: Blogger, Game Junkie;1 CommentThe launch of the Playstation Portable, commonly known as the PSP, is now only a month away. The system will retail in the US for $249 and come with a basic carrying pouch, 32MB Memory Stick Duo, and UMD Movie Version of Spider-Man 2. Not a bad package for a system with almost as much punch as a Playstation 2!
There are two important details from a Game Junkie sense that are worth noting right now:
- As of right now, Game Junkie will not be taking pre-orders for the PSP systems due to uncertain quantities at launch. We would love to promise people that we will have enough PSP’s to meet the expected demand, but since we’re not sure right now, we don’t want to disappoint people. We will be taking pre-orders on all games and accessories, and plan to bring in more affordable Memory Stick DUO cards as well.
- We do, however, have something no other store in Cincinnati has … a PSP for you to try! We have an imported Japanese PSP unit complete with Ridge Racers for you to see the graphics and features, and we’ve even encoded some video onto the Memory Card to play with for your viewing pleasure, so we’ll be pros at helping you with any questions about the PSP you may have.
So as we gear up for the launch of an awful good looking handheld entertainment deck, Game Junkie will be there to help you with anything you want to know or ever thought you could do, so that you can get your gaming fix!

So here’s my stumbled upon site of the night, found through a friend’s site: Speed Demos Archive. The site literally has thousands of videos of speed demo runs from both PC and video games. The one I’m looking at right now is a 36 minute run of Legend Of Zelda from 6/20/04. It’s a 90 Meg DiVX download, and the guy even said he cauclated a minute and a half of mistakes and explained why he can get the run down to 33 minutes, and beat the record of 34.
34 minutes to beat Zelda?! I somehow think Miyamoto would both be happy and displeased at the same time. WOW!

It never was my state anyways …
Filed under: LiveJournal, Personal; No CommentsSo when I got my iBook back, I figured I could return to my normal level of blogging. Yeah, not so much! But here I am, putting a good entry together, so it’s all good.
Anyways, this is my thought for the day. I like Ohio and all, but I was driving with Danielle through my old stomping grounds in beautiful Fort Mitchell, and showed her where my old apartment was in Sherwood Knoll, and got to thinking … that I really like Northern Kentucky more then I do Cincinnati still. It’s a nicer area, more peaceful, and all in all I would have to drive a lot less. On average, I put about 3,000 miles in my car monthly, and while I plan to keep my car long enough to not have to worry about specifics in mileage, it would be nice to drive about 30% to 40% less every single month (and every store I’d need outside of a couple of computer stores is in Northern Kentucky anyways).
The roommate thing has not been as pleasant as it used to be, and having a girlfriend now, I can see a real need for more privacy and freedom, you know, the reasons you move out from your parents eventually! Having a little less space total space, and maybe some more space to call my own also sounds awful good right now.
The plan right now is June. If I could have everything ready to go by June life would just be awesome. I think it can happen, it’s just going to take a lot of savings, and a lot less disposable purchases, but that has been better the last month or so, hopefully I can continue along that path.
’tis all for now. Here comes the Commonwealth!

8-Bit Triathlon - THIS SATURDAY!
Filed under: Blogger, Game Junkie; No CommentsWe invite you to come into Game Junkie and go “old school”, let us know how much you loved the 80’s, however you want to phrase it, we’re getting our retro on and we want you to be a part of it!
We’re having our “8-Bit Triathlon” this weekend starting at 11:30 AM. It will feature three great NES 8-bit classics for your competing pleasure!
- Tecmo Bowl - Still what some consider to be one of the most fun football games of all time, it’s a 7-on-7 classic that is still enjoyed by many many players.
- Dr. Mario - One of the best puzzle games that the system had to offer, players have to match up vitamin capsules of similar colors to knock out the viruses.
- RC Pro-Am - A radio control car racer complete with 4-player support, power-ups (and damage), and winding treacherous tracks which never give you a second to rest on your lead.
A $10 entry fee will get you into all three events and we’ll have great prizes for the winners. Each event will be a tournament onto itself, either single or double elimination time permitting, and each event will have a champion crowned.
This should be a lot of fun and a more relaxed tournament then some of our others, so if you want to check it out, or even if you think you just have “skills”, come and play!
You can e-mail me or comment here with any questions you may have.
