So think of how cool an event like this would be ….
* It would go for 12 weeks, and feature 10 games. You wouldn’t know what the game is until a couple of days before the weekly event begins, to eliminate practice hoarding ’til the very end.
* Players would be able to come in at any time during the week to register their score … they can practice at the store all they want, but must tell a official when they want to play their official game, and that one counts.
* The game selection would run from old to new (Atari to XBox?), and from every imaginable genre …. from rhythm to action to classic arcade hits, with games you know, and maybe games you’ve never heard of
* There would be weekly winners for each event, with their picture firmly placed in the annals of Game Junkie lore (and the walls of course), and a grand prize of $500 and the title of Ultimate Gamer. That title would be determined using a racing-style points system so that if you’re blown out by one player in one game, you’re not out of the grand prize running …. so that the best all-around gamer wins, not just someone superior at one game.
* And since people can sometimes have a hard time coming in once a week for 10 weeks, there will be make-up weeks in order for players from out of town to catch up on all the events and still compete for the grand prize and still have fun.
Oh yeah …. and it’s only $20 to enter and you get a free T-Shirt? And oh yeah …. it’s real and it’s happening?
This is the fun that’s happening up at Game Junkie starting on the 16th …. we’re hoping to have 100 signups from all over the place, and have huge turnouts each week for each event along the way, to make it the biggest tournament we run this year (and every year for that matter).
If this sounds cool to you, tell a friend, pass it on, just bug someone, and check it out, and e-mail me at my work address, scooter@gamejunkie.com, and get signed up!
If nothing else … you gotta sign up to try and beat me!

Our 8-team ESPN NFL 2K5 Test League has been a load of fun. The games have generally been good (my last two have ended up being closer then I would have liked, but I am 3-2 now), and the behind the scenes antics (news posts, message board posting) has been classic, and will be part of Game Junkie lore (”Shame Of The Packers” is almost good enough to be framed!) Some highlights:
* Adam Stewart has declared that he’s trying for an 0-8 season … we’re not sure why other then he’s being a masochist.
* Matt is the leader at 4-0, and probably the best offensive player out of everyone, he leads in points even though one game never made it to the statistics due to a game lockup. He may be the best defensive player too but his offense is so good that everyone ends up falling out of good football sequence.
* Everyone has totally different styles of play … some people are pass happy, other people have huge running games, and while the better players are near the top of the stats, there’s lots of surprises.
This is why we’re expanding this to a 16-team league for everyone, cause this stuff is just flat out fun, and the customized league pages are unbelievably cool. This game would have been great for $20 normally, with all these options, it makes it off the charts.
Anyways, the league name is GameJunkie and the password is mario. It’s on XBox Live, and I want to get 13 more people to sign up before they make me re-start signups in about 10 days … so the pressure’s on everyone reading, but RSVP your spot here, it will be fun!
