So by total coincidence, my knack of finding the worst possible weather, and being there for it, continued today. I was in Louisville for my cousin’s college graduation party, and while we’re there, tornado warnings break out all over Louisville. Apparently, about 6 or 7 tornadoes spawned and went through the city and the outskirts, two of them (at least according to radar) were within a mile of where I was in Oldham County! It was still an overall good time, and more then a few good quotes came out of it. I offer two below.

“Whoa, just give me a call when you’re up there in the funnel cloud!” -Greg Ward

“So I think I’ve figured out to read the Super Triple Doppler … when it’s red, you’re screwed.” -Scooter

More later … I have to go pick up my uncle at the airport in Dayton tonight at 10:30 … I will be owed big for this.

Rarely is any love posted for an OS crash on any forum ever, but I’m about to give Apple some love for their ability to recover. Here’s how the story goes:

So I was sitting ay my desk at work, working on stuff and updating my Panther OS to 10.3.4, and as it’s “writing files” on the upgrade, it goes to the screen saver and locks up …. go to reboot, and it locks, never boots again, go to verbose mode and it stops at the IP Firewall extension and goes no farther. So here I am, at work, in panic, and thinking I may have lost my 2 gig home directory … but have no fear.

OSX has an option called “Archive & Install” for it’s Panter and Jaguar OS systems. Basically, it’s like re-installing Windows on a new directory, except it does it in a much more streamlined fashion. It allows you to take your old home directory and bring it to the new OS install like nothing happened, keeps all your applications installed, and hopefully (they don’t guarantee perfection) no application issues.

So I give it a go, install Panther, and it works … I have my old user set in place and the files look good. I went ahead and ran Software Update for all the standard updates, and then ran the standalone combined 10.3.4 update, and it worked great. The only things I had to re-install were Palm Desktop and the iSync Palm Conduit … not bad, not bad.

Find me a Windows install that in 3 hours is back to full usage!

So why do I love my iBook? Simply put, cause I can sit in the doctor’s room waiting for the doc to come in and still type up stuff on here! I’m in here for a standard follow up, at least I am sure hoping it proves to be that, for my medications and what not. So far so good although I so need to stop gouging myself on fast food in the car. I so need to clean the car and keep some cheesy butterscotch candy in there just to tithe me over until I get home, cause having nothing but tons of wrappers in there? That doesn’t work. :)

So RAW is at Scooterville … if any random people are reading this and might want to come over. Tis all for now, more soon.

So Hooters is on the “crap list” for the next week or so. Why you ask? Well, this is why.

The wrestling group (this consists of Nathan, Stephen, fresh back from a weekend in Windsor), Laura, and Drew and myself) decided to save a few bucks and go to Hooters and eat some wings and watch some wrestling … of course, that’s a great plan unless their satellite doesn’t work! So instead, it’s a comfy night @ the KP watching Summer Slam 2003 and trying to keep down those jalepeno fries that weren’t that good anyways. Ahh yes, all is well with the world. :-)

More on the weekend at the Junkie later.

So have I said today how much I love my Mac? :-) I’m now re-using it for LiveJournal, for all my sync efforts for all my geek toys, and what the heck, gonna use it to post thoughts on some of the E3 efforts out there so far and what I’m playing and doing right now.

Work: For those of you whom don’t know, I’m back in the office in Walton. I like outside sales a little more, but I do think I’m better as an inside salesman, working the desk, handing orders and being the first line of defense. The part that sucks is simply, GAS! For the first time in my life, I paid $2 for a gallon of gas today ($2.05.9 to be exact, thanks Speedway, fookers), and I’m gotten the forward to not buy gas on the 19th like 3 times already (good luck on that one). So, the drive to work and back is like a $7 endeavour, but at least the pay got a little better to come back in. You sure can’t have it all, but you can have some of it I guess.

Gaming: Please, please, please, someone give me a stupid excuse to pop back in Final Fantasy XI! I had it all figured out … I’m gonna make 2 mule characters, I’m gonna rule the auction house, get cool stuff, keep levelling up. Instead, I’ve been at Level 12 for a month! I’m pondering suspending it, but so far I’ve resisted. I may pop it back in this weekend when I get a little time, I’m also wanting to play Madden (I’ve been slightly re-invigorated to play it again with 2005 coming soon), as well as MVP Baseball 2004, which is the best baseball game I have played in a couple of years, since WSB 2K2 on Dreamcast (WSB 2K3 on XBox is a close second, it’s worth saying).

More later, as I depart from THE Game Junkie!
